This week marks #nationalapprenticeshipweek. Apprenticeships enable people to find different pathways to future careers that otherwise may not be available to them. They can provide an alternative to the traditional university route for those who want to obtain hands-on experience and sharpen their fundamental skills, giving them an edge in an already competitive job market, whilst also gaining a degree.

Who better to hear about Jaltek’s apprenticeship scheme from, than one of our own:

Thomas Warren, who studied Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Engineering at Central Bedfordshire, joined us as an apprentice in January.

“I was first introduced to the apprenticeship scheme with Jaltek when they visited my college and it has been a life changing experience. I am now studying at Warwick University whilst also gaining on the job experience. This balance was exactly what I was looking for as the learning and training that I am gaining is constantly furthering my development, which will be invaluable for my career going forward.

I work within the test department, so have been trained to test PCBA’s using a wide selection of hardware and software. On some projects I have even worked on streamlining test procedures, whilst still adhering to customers specifications. I have also had the opportunity to work with a flying probe machine and PAT testing for appliances. These skills all widen my understanding of the industry and will make me more employable in the future.

The company have made me feel so welcome and like a truly valued member of the team from day one. They have provided invaluable support and access to training, and I am very grateful for the opportunities that this apprenticeship is providing me.”
